Brief company profile

Ökohof Gemüsehandel GmbH was founded in 1990 by Hans-Peter Luhn. The company deals in fresh as well as in deep frozen vegetables coming exclusively from controlled organic contract farming for the processing foodstuff industry. In 1995 the quality management system of Ökohof Gemüsehandel GmbH was certified according to ISO 9001:2000.
The business is based on a controlled organic contract farming that meets the respective regulations for cultivation. Within the scope of this contract farming we conclude field-by-field planting contracts with selected farmers in Germany, Denmark, Poland and the Netherlands. These contracts are restricted to the season.

Such planting contracts are concluded only on condition that the farm is acknowledged in conformity with the regulations on organic farming according to the "EEC Council Regulation No. 834/2007 on organic farming and the respective labeling of agricultural products and foodstuff".

Ökohof Gemüsehandel GmbH provides the farmers with seed and plants and also with sowing machines, harvesting machines and sorting machines, if required. During the growing season, the farmers are advised by the company's agricultural service, if questions arise concerning cultivation measures. Furthermore, compliance with the regulations on organic farming is regularly controlled.

Main products are carrots, beet roots, parsnips, celeriac, cauliflower, fennel, beans and potatoes. The customer group for fresh organic vegetables comprises in the first place manufacturers of dietary food such as baby food and vegetable juice but also canning factories and manufacturers of frozen foods all over the European Union.
In most of the cases, seasonal contracts are concluded with these customers. The customers may choose, examine and sample acreages for the future deliveries already during the growing season. Based on more than 40 years of experience of the parent company Erich Luhn KG in contract farming, Ökohof Gemüsehandel GmbH has built up an extensive internal control and traceability system. Aim is on the one hand to ensure the labeling of ecologically grown products in accordance with the EU Regulation (EEC Council Regulation No. 834/2007) and on the other hand to meet the high demands on the raw products (compliance with the diet regulation). The control system is not restricted to contract farming but does also comprise processing into frozen foods as well as all transports.
